Have Google Earth?

We are in the process of creating new tools for viewing global TEC, Radio Availability, MUF, and foF2 using the Google Earth application. If you have the free Google Earth installed, the following links provide the current KML files you need to drop into Google Earth to immediately view 3-D images of the ionospheric data overlying Earth. Click on the file links below to download them (with a ".kml" extension). Then simply drag the file over the Google Earth application icon or open the file within Google Earth. These KML files will be changing frequently while we develop the prototype, so check back frequently for new KML files to use.

Google_TEC.kml
Google_R.kml
Google_MUF.kml
Google_foF2.kml

In addition to the files above, which are a single snapshot of the ionosphere at the most recent time, an animated version is available which shows the past 24 hours.

Google_MUF_anim_00Z.kml
Google_TEC_anim_00Z.kml

Google Space example

- Click here for a KML file that shows the dynamically calculated flight path from Chicago to Beijing, which, in an upcoming version, will be calculated from a GUI simply by specifying the longitude and latitude of the points of origin and destination.

- Click here for a QuickTime animation. It is a large file: about 60 MB

- Click here to see our Geosynchronous Spacecraft Charging website.
